Qualifications
Qualifications must be achieved as a combination to enter at each level as follows (Classes entered Hors Concurs, BD Youth, Team Quest, Para and Freestyle classes cannot be used as qualifying scores). Area Festival, Regional, My Quest, Senior Home International and Youth Home International scores can be used. Scores must be obtained in the period from 1st January 2024 to the closing date of the show. Scores will be requested on the entry form.
Qualifying scores must be visible on the British Dressage website under Results or downloadable from an official BD competition. Riders and horses must have the appropriate BD membership to enter classes so that their results will be displayed. Scores obtained as HC or using a class ticket are not eligible for qualification.
Those residing in Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man and other offshore islands require the Offshore number of scores at or above the qualifying Midway Championships percentage, as shown below.

RULES
- Prelim to Advanced Medium classes - Riders are eligible if they have competed 2 or less horses at any level at British Dressage competitions since 1st January 2024 and have NOT competed at a Senior or Youth CDI/CDN since 1st January 2019 with any horse.
- Prix St Georges to Grand Prix classes - Riders who have competed any number of horses from Preliminary to Advanced Medium, but have only competed 2 horses at PSG or higher at British Dressage since 1st January 2024 and have NOT competed at a Senior CDI/CDN competition since 1st January 2019 are eligible. Riders who have competed at Youth FEI competitions, CDI/CDN in Pony, Children on Horses, Juniors and Young Riders are eligible provided the COMBINATION has NOT competed at a CDI or CDN.
- Winter or National Championships - Silver combinations placed 1st - 10th at the Winter Championships or National Championships (including freestyle classes) in the last 3 calendar years from Preliminary to Intermediare I must compete at a higher level at the Midway Championships. Any combination who has competed in the Gold section at the Winter or National Championships (including freestyle classes) must compete at a higher level at The Midway Championships.
- National Championships - Combinations who have qualified for Intermediare II only at the National Championships may compete in the combined Grand Prix class, but must ride the Grand Prix on the second day. Riders may compete at a lower level on a different horse provided the combination is eligible.
- Pet Plan Winter or Summer Area Festival Championships – Combinations placed 1st – 6th at Pet Plan Winter and Summer Area Festival Championships (Hartpury/Addington (2024)/Arena UK) in the last 3 calendar years from Preliminary to Advanced Medium including Freestyle must compete at higher level than they competed at the Pet Plan Area Festival Championships at the Midway Championships
- Pet Plan Winter or Summer Area Festival Championships - Combinations placed 1st – 3rd at Pet Plan Winter and Summer Area Festival Championships (Hartpury/Addington (2024)/Arena UK) in the last 3 calendar years from PSG to Intermediare I and who have achieved 66% or above in straight classes or 68% or above in music classes at the Championships must compete at higher level than they competed at the Pet Plan Area Festival Championships at the Midway Championships
- Riders must be 14 years old on or before 31st December 2023.
- All horses must be aged 4 or over.
- A horse may only be ridden by one rider throughout the competition
- Horses and riders may compete at 2 levels subject to achieving the relevant qualifications at that level. Combinations must be eligible for the level under BD rules.
- This competition is open to riders in any part of the UK who have qualified in accordance with the rules and are registered with British Dressage, either as Club or Full membership. Club membership is only applicable for the Preliminary class or for the music classes 1—7. All horses must be registered with British Dressage with the correct competing membership for the level that they are competing at.
- This competition is run under BD Rules
- .Only combinations that are entered for the Midway Championships may enter the Midway Music Championships except for the Grand Prix Freestyle
- The Midway Music Championships can only be entered at the same level or above as the Midway Championships.
- This is an unaffiliated competition so there is no Bronze, Silver or Gold classifications, each class is open at every level, except for Classes 1—7 which have the sections shown.
- Classes 1—7 are British Dressage Music Classes and are open to any competitor in accordance with British Dressage rules.
- All combinations entered for The Midway Championships will be required to complete the relevant tests on both days.
- Only combinations that are entered for the The Midway Championships (Classes 11—17) may enter the Midway Music Championships (Classes 21—27). An entry in Classes 21—27 will automatically create an entry in Classes 1 —6, except for the Grand Prix Freestyle (class 7) which is open to all and will also automatically enter the combination into the Midway Music Championships.
- Commanders are not allowed for any classes. Whips are not allowed for classes 11—17. Whips are allowed for allsections of class 18.
- In accordance with the BD Code of Conduct for Horse Welfare, there is a maximum number of tests that a horse may perform in one day. If a horse competes at any level from Prelim to Advanced Medium it may only compete in three tests at that level(s) or below per day. If a horse competes at PSG/Inter I it may only compete in two tests at that level(s) or below per day. If a horse competes at Inter II/ Grand Prix, it may not compete in any other test on the same day.
- In the event of oversubscription, entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis. The Organiser reserves the right to either close classes prior to the closing date in the event of oversubscription, or to split the class. In the event of oversubscribed classes that are split, the final placing will be determined by a ride off. In this event the top 5 from each section will go through to the ride off and it will be the combined total good marks expressed as percentage of all 3 tests that will determine the final placings. Rosettes will be given for 1st—10th in each section, but the championship’s rosettes and prize money will only be awarded to those in the ride off.
- Classes 11 —27 are unaffiliated and not associated with British Dressage. Only classes 1 —7 are eligible as qualifying classes for any BD championships. No other class is eligible for any BD championship.
